FM 109 - Viscous, Custom, and Non-Newtonian Fluids In PIPE-FLO (4 Hours)

For those working with atypical fluids, FM-109 provides insight into how to specify and model them in PIPE-FLO to better represent their behavior in piping systems. Properties of these fluids will be discussed, along with how to translate those properties into PIPE-FLO to get results reflecting real-world behavior. Creating fluids with data from other sources will be discussed, including using incomplete or ambiguous data, as well as behavior and factors associated with non-Newtonian (shear thinning/shear thickening) and higher viscosity fluids. Students will walk through specifying and applying these fluids in a virtual lab, hands-on environment.

Course Objectives:

  • Create custom fluids from single data points or graphs
  • Understand the fundamental factors associated with non-Newtonian fluids
  • Learn how to model AODD pumping systems with viscous fluids
  • Learn to specify and apply non-Newtonian fluids to PIPE-FLO models
  • Get hands-on experience with practical exercises
